EARTH HOUR

 What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is a global environmental initiative in partnership with WWF. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday, 29 March 2014 at 8.30pm (local time) to show their support for environmentally sustainable action.

The event began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned off their lights for one hour to take a stand against climate change. By 2012, Earth Hour reached more than 7,000 cities and towns across 152 countries and territories, receiving reports as ‘the world’s largest campaign for the planet’.

Earth Hour 2013 took place in more than 7,000 cities and towns in 153 countries and territories across all seven continents. Hundreds of millions of people switched their lights off for an hour, and the campaign experienced its biggest growth since 2009.

A global drive to raise awareness on climate change and global warming, Penang will celebrate with the rest of the world this Earth Hour. To participate, simply flick the switch for an hour from 8.30pm until 9.30pm to do your part in lending your support. You can also participate in these events:
